For more then 2000 years humans have been blowing glass..long before the modern technology. I want to create a wood fired glass furnace inspired by the early roman furnaces.

Geir Nustad Tromsø, Norway, 1984.
Geir Nustad was born and raised in Tromsø, a city in the very north of Norway. He grew up surrounded by deep fjords and high mountains rising straight up from the sea. Geir’s work is often inspired by these extreme surroundings, for instance the contrast between the polar night and the midnight sun in winter and summer and the changing of the weather. His work also reflects on his cultural and geographical connection to the north of Norway and the Same culture. as you can see in the contrast between the outside and the inside of his art work, the colours and patterns, the peacefulnes and the use of symbolism of the Same culture.

Geir was trained as a craftsman at the Kosta Glass School and later studied art at the Gerrit Rietveld academy in Amsterdam. As an artist and craftsman, he is striving to find his own expression in the material glass, and moreover, he is trying to push the boundaries of what is possible with the material glass, both esthetically and technically. Over the last decade Geir has developed his own unique respiration to change the visual expression of his glass pieces to a first impression of stone, metal, ceramic or cast iron, contrasting with the insides, where you can see the true beauty of what is only possible in glass. His series unique objects called ‘Waves’ is an example of how this master artisan is able to push the limits of the material
